Operations and Technical Services Center tour - next CO-ASIS&T event! Register by Oct. 9 (September 22, 2022)

Good morning, all!

Please join the Central Ohio Regional Chapter for a private and behind-the-scenes tour of the Columbus Metropolitan Library Operations and Technical Services Center.
Learn about the organization, design, and workflow of CML's Collection Services department, and how department operations have adjusted since before the pandemic.

When: 10:00-11:30 AM, Thursday, October 13, 2022 Networking & coffee: 9:30 AM-10:00 AM
Where: CML Operations Center, 101 S. Stygler Road, Columbus, 43230.

Topics covered will include:

  •  Purchasing process and strategy
  •  How materials are processed for circulation
  •  Changes in workflow due to pandemic-related factors
  •  Methodology for distribution of materials

Bio:
Erica Cherup is the Collection Development Manager for the Columbus Metropolitan Library in Columbus, Ohio, and has worked in various roles at CML for 17 years. She received her MLIS from Kent State University in 2007 and also holds a BS in Physics from Miami University. Erica was selected as an ALA Emerging Leader in 2011 and has presented at several Ohio Library Council and Public Library Association conferences. She recently served as the Local Arrangements Chair for the 2021 OLC Convention & Expo and is currently a member of the PLA program committee for the ALA 2023 Annual Conference.

SIG-USE (the ASIS&T SIG for user information studies) will be partnering with us for an open Zoom Social Hour on Monday, April 11, at 3:00pm Eastern (2:00pm Central).
All are welcome, no need to be a part of the SIG; we are using these social hours as a way to get to know our fellow ASIS&T members around the world!

 

Webinar: The Future Isn’t Textbook (March 3, 2022)

The program is a brief overview of the complex relationship between the textbook publishing industry and the current academic and learning environment, including the impact the pandemic has had on the changing expectations of faculty and students. Presenters will discuss open educational resources, inclusive access textbooks, affordable learning initiatives, and the library’s critical role in navigating these landscapes. Participants will develop a familiarity with historical and current models of textbook publishing. Gain an understanding of the relationship between inclusive access publishing, open educational resources, and the current higher education landscape. Understand the ways in which libraries and librarians can play a critical role in ensuring affordable access to course materials for students.
