Best European Paper award
Purpose of the Award
The purpose of this award is to recognise the best refereed paper published by an author affiliated with a European institution.
Nature of the Award
The best paper award shall consist of a certificate for the winning author (and each co-author). If the winning author is a member of ASIS&T they will receive $160. Non-members will instead receive one year membership of ASIS&T.
Eligibility
The award recipient must meet the following qualifications:
- The author must be affiliated to a European institution.
- For papers where there are multiple authors, only one author may be nominated for the award (all authors will receive a certificate).
- All papers should be published between June 2022 and May 2023. NOTE: this refers to the date it was first published in its final form.
- Papers should have been peer reviewed. This could include conference presentations as well as journal articles.
Criteria
Submissions will be judged on the following criteria:
- The significance of the problem addressed including the contribution to Information Science and usefulness to information professionals
- Methodological rigour
- Creativity and originality
- Quality of presentation including clarity of expression.
Nominations process
We welcome nominations from all European Chapter members. Please nominate yourself and others. Submit your nominations using this Google Form. We ask you to provide a brief explanation for why you think this paper should receive this award (five sentences suggested).
Selections process
Award winners shall be selected by a jury composed of ASIS&T European Chapter committee members
- Jury members will rate each nominee on a scale of 5 (highest) to 1 (lowest) on each of the four criteria.
- The jury chair shall tally the votes, with each criteria weighted equally.
- In the event of a tie, the jury chair will identify an additional jury member to break the tie. This new jury member will evaluate only the tied nominations, and will rate them using the same four criteria.
Presentation of the Award
The award shall be announced during the ASIS&T Annual meeting.

Best European Student Paper Award
Purpose of the Award
The purpose of this award is to recognise the best refereed student paper published by a student affiliated with a European institution.
Nature of the Awards
The best paper award shall consist of a certificate for the winning student. If the winning student is a member of ASIS&T they will receive $47.50. Non-members will instead receive one year membership of ASIS&T.
Eligibility
The award recipient must meet the following qualifications:
- The student must be the lead author of the paper.
- The student must be affiliated to a European institution.
- All papers should be published between June 2022 and May 2023. NOTE: this refers to the date it was first published in its final form.
- Papers should have been peer reviewed. This could include conference presentations as well as journal articles.
- Students may enter both Best European Paper Award and Best European Student Paper Award but can only receive one award (i.e. if a student were awarded Best European Paper Award they will no longer be eligible for the Best European Student Paper Award).
