Description:

The purpose of the Content Profile/Linked Document (CP/LD) standard is to define a flexible, extensible, standards-based format for combining content, data, and semantics intended as a machine-readable, self-describing markup that can be used to exchange data and content between systems, APIs, and services. By building on the HTML and JSON-LD standards, it allows linking in a much more distributed manner compared to other formats, whether between arbitrarily small chunks or large aggregations of content, while still providing enough structure to exchange content and data across processes, services, and workflows.

Voted YES on NISO Z39.2022-202X,STS Standards Tag Suite

Description:

This voting pool is to approve the publication of the revised standard NISO Z39.102-202X, STS: Standards Tag Suite, as an American National Standard.

The Standards Tag Suite (STS) provides a common XML format that developers, publishers, and distributors of standards, including national standards bodies, regional and international standards bodies, and standards development organizations, can use to publish and exchange full-text content and metadata of standards. STS is based on ANSI/NISO Z39.96 (JATS). Structures are provided to encode both the normative and non-normative content of: standards, adoptions of standards, and standards-like documents that are produced by standards organizations.

For reference:
This is the second edition of this standard. NISO STS, including the element and attribute descriptions and the two standards tag sets, have been extended based on user experience, public comments, and incorporating applicable modifications that have been made to JATS 1.3. NISO STS 1.2, this version, is fully backward compatible with the previous version of this standard, NISO STS 1.0, and with ISO STS versions 1.1 and 1.0. That is, any document valid to ISO STS 1.1 or to NISO STS 1.0 will be valid to NISO STS 1.2, by changing only the document type declaration (or other schema identification mechanism).

[It is called “JATS 1.2” because ISO STS 1.1–a separate/earlier work–already exists and the Standing Committee wished to try to avoid confusion.]

This standard provides guidelines for the content, organization, and presentation of indexes used for the retrieval of documents and parts of documents. It deals with the principles of indexing regardless of the type of material indexed, the indexing method used, the medium of the index, or the method of presentation for searching. It emphasizes three processes essential for all indexes: comprehensive design, vocabulary management, and syntax.

Description:

Libraries each have unique needs to uphold and sustain their mission. As a result, the potential combinations of software/systems evident across the library community are virtually unlimited. However, the ability to implement preferred approaches for each library, involving integrating disparate systems and tools, can be challenging when dealing with closed infrastructures, technical limitations, lack of standardization, system restrictions, unclarity about the scope of interoperability, and the potential confusion caused by lack of clarity/definition of related terms. The ILS (Integrated Library System) or LSP (Library Services Platform) tends to be the center of these environments where interoperability and bi-directional integrations are paramount, hence the focus of this endeavor.

This proposal is to support a working group that will develop a Recommended Practice to create visibility, clarity, and conformance of the areas that will optimize open interoperability around the ILS/LSP and support the various parties involved. The initial working group for the Open ILS Initiative Recommended Practice would analyze the existing landscape, including conducting community surveys, among other types of information gathering.
