Submission Types
ASIS&T invites submissions for the 2022 Annual Meeting in the following formats.
Long Paper
Long papers should discuss, analyze, and critique theories and concepts, or report original, unpublished research; all papers must be substantiated by empirical evidence, analysis, experimentation, simulation, theoretical development, or application in practice. Submissions will be judged on such criteria as quality of content, theoretical or practical significance, method, design, originality, and quality of presentation. The presenters will have 20 minutes to present their long paper at the meeting, followed by 10 minutes for Q&A. Publishing the final paper in the Proceedings is optional.
- Length: The maximum length for a long paper, including title and abstract (not more than 200 words), is 10 pages not including references (i.e., pages with only references do not count toward the page limit). Do not include appendices. Submissions must be formatted according to the AM22 Proposal Template Instructions.
- Any tables, figures, or other graphics should be embedded in the document.
- Peer Review: Submissions must be anonymized as they will be refereed by a double-blind review process. Do not include any author names in the paper you upload for review. If accepted, you will add the names later.
- Name the file [first author’s last name, initial of the first name] AM22LongPaper (Example: Last, Initial AM22LongPaper.doc)

Short papers are similar to long papers in terms of scope, but they may also report work in progress. Submissions will be judged on such criteria as quality of content, theoretical or practical significance, method, design, originality, and quality of presentation. The presenters will have 12 minutes to present their short paper at the meeting, followed by 3 minutes for Q&A. Publishing the final paper in the Proceedings is optional.
- Length: The maximum length for a short paper, including title and abstract (not more than 200 words), is 4 pages not including references (i.e., pages with only references do not count toward the page limit). Do not include appendices. Submissions must be formatted according to the AM22 Proposal Template Instructions.

Proposals for 40- or 90-minute panels are invited on topics that explore emerging cutting-edge research and design, analyses of emerging trends, opinions on controversial issues, analyses of tools and techniques, or contrasting viewpoints from experts in complementary areas of research. Please indicate when making your submission if you would prefer a 40- or 90-minute session.
If your panel is sponsored by a SIG (Special Interest Group), please indicate this in your proposal.
Proposals should include an overview of the issues to be discussed. They must also only list panelists who have agreed to pay the registration fee and present during the conference, indicating the qualifications and contributions of each.

Panels are intended to be highly interactive and participatory, informal, engaging, and pluralistic, and are not a substitute for a set of contributed papers. We aim to select a balance of panels to appeal to the wide variety of ASIS&T attendees. The review criteria will be considered in the review process include:
- A cohesive theme likely to promote lively discussion,
- Valuable and interesting contributions to areas represented by the ASIS&T community,
- A clear, feasible, and well-organized session plan that emphasizes audience interaction, and
- Appropriate levels of diversity in panelists who will contribute unique perspectives and content to the session.
Alternative events are opportunities for highly interactive engagement, and may include (but are not limited to) fishbowls, storytelling, roundtable discussions, and demos/exhibitions. Please indicate when making your submission if you would prefer a 40- or 90-minute session.

Posters are designed to invite questions and discussion and offer a unique opportunity to present late-breaking results, work in progress, data sets, methodological tools, or research that is best communicated in a poster format. Authors are expected to address how the work will be presented at the meeting (e.g., poster, demo, etc.). Since all posters are presented at the same time, only one (1) poster per presenting author can be accepted. If more than one is accepted, a coauthor must be available to present during the poster session. If there are no coauthors, then only one (1) poster will be accepted per author.
- Length: The maximum length for a poster submission, including title and abstract (not more than 200 words), is 2 pages not including references (i.e., pages with only references do not count toward the page limit). Do not include appendices. Submissions must be formatted according to the AM22 Proposal Template Instructions.

In addition to the traditional poster session held during the Annual Meeting, individuals who are unable to attend the meeting in person are invited to submit a proposal for the virtual poster session to be held on October 3, 2022 via Zoom. When submitting, authors will have the option to submit to the virtual or in-person poster session. It will not be possible to switch between these two tracks once a poster is accepted, so please be sure to submit to the correct track.
Workshops will be held before the conference. In-person workshops will be held on Saturday, October 29. Virtual workshops will be held the weekend of October 8 and 9. The purpose of a workshop is to provide a more informal setting for the exchange of ideas on a focused topic and suggest directions for future work. As such, they offer a good opportunity for researchers and professionals to present and discuss their work among a targeted and interested community. Workshops may be mini-focused research presentations, a series of working events, brainstorming and idea sharing, or even teaching/learning a new skill. If your panel is sponsored by a SIG (Special Interest Group), please indicate this in your proposal.
- Length: The maximum length for a workshop submission, including title and abstract (not more than 200 words), is 2 pages not including references (i.e., pages with only references do not count toward the page limit). Do not include appendices. It does not require using the proposal template.
- Any tables, figures, or other graphics should be embedded in the document.
- Workshop Length: One half day (4 hours) or one full day (7 hours plus 1-hour lunch break).
- Peer Review: Workshop proposals undergo a single-blind review process and must not be anonymized.
Workshop organizers are asked to indicate in their abstract whether the workshop will be offered virtually or in-person.
