Voted YES on ISO/CD 24138, Information and documentation – International Standard Content Code (ISCC)

Description:

This document specifies the syntax and structure of the International Standard Content Code (ISCC), as an identification system for digital assests (including encodings of text, images, audio, video or other content across all media sectors). It also describes ISCC metadata and the use of ISCC in conjunction with other schemes, such as the schemes defined by ISO/TC 46/SC 9.

Voted APPROVE on ISO/FDIS 233-2, Information and documentation – Transliteration of Arabic characters into Latin characters – Part 3: Persian language – Transliteration>

Description:

This document establishes a system for the transliteration into Latin characters of the Arabic characters (often called Perso-Arabic script) used to write the Persian language. This modification of the stringent rules established by ISO 233:1984 is especially intended to facilitate the processing of bibliographic information (e.g. catalogues, indices, citations, etc.

Voted YES on Merging the various parts of ISO 639 (the Standard for Language Codes) into one document and replacing the hardcoded language code tables with links to web sites that can be maintained externally

Description:

SO/DIS 639-4:2022, which was approved entirely and unanimously, was developed anticipating the consolidation of the former ISO 639-series (Parts 1 to 5) into one single document. The Foreword of the new document should be corrected to indicate “This new edition of ISO 639 cancels and replaces the latest editions of the former ISO 639-series (ISO 63901:2022, ISO 639-2:1998, ISO 639-3:2007, ISO 639-4:2010 and ISO 639-5:2008), of which it constitutes a technical revision.”

As the tables for the ISO 639 language code will continue to be maintained by the “Language Coding Agencies, LCA” (former “RAs”), and be made publicly available on their websites, it does not seem appropriate to include code tables in ISO 639, as they will become outdated as soon as new codes are registered. Instead, the Standard ISO 639 should include hyperlinks directing the users to the tables maintained by the LCAs on their websites, always kept up to date.

Description:

This International Standard is applicable to all types of libraires in all countries. However, not all performance indicators apply to all libraries. Limitations on the applicability of individual performance indicators are listed in the scope clause of the description for each indicator.

Description:

Networks of libraries have a long tradition of working together to expand their resources and provide more comprehensive coverage across all subjects through sharing of resources. More recently, larger networks of institutions have explored wider adoption of cooperative collections management, which this project defines as a process by which networks of institutions work collaboratively to acquire, manage, circulate, and preserve collections across the network. This exploration may include shared infrastructure for patron discovery, fulfillment, analytics, and models for collaboration and organizational decision making. 

The Collaborative Collections Lifecycle Project (CCLP) seeks to overcome serious barriers to wider implementations, several of which have been observed, including the lack of available vendor-neutral interoperable systems, adequate governance and decision-making frameworks, and assessment tools. This work item, proposing a specific infrastructure project, “CCLIP,” particularly addresses the lack of data exchange standards, applicable to the development of a new research library ecosystem where networks of institutions and experts can collaborate across systems to more effectively serve their just-in-case and just-in-time patrons’ needs, while avoiding duplication of effort in their acquisitions and deployment of resources.

Voted YES on NISO Z39.102-202X STS:Standard Tag Suite

Description:

The Standards Tag Suite (STS) provides a common XML format that developers, publishers, and distributors of standards, including national standards bodies, regional and international standards bodies, and standards development organizations, can use to publish and exchange full-text content and metadata of standards. STS is based on ANSI/NISO Z39.96 (JATS). Structures are provided to encode both the normative and non-normative content of: standards, adoptions of standards, and standards-like documents that are produced by standards organizations.

This is the second edition of this standard. NISO STS, including the element and attribute descriptions and the two standards tag sets, have been extended based on user experience, public comments, and incorporating applicable modifications that have been made to JATS 1.3. NISO STS 1.2, this version, is fully backward compatible with the previous version of this standard, NISO STS 1.0, and with ISO STS versions 1.1 and 1.0. That is, any document valid to ISO STS 1.1 or to NISO STS 1.0 will be valid to NISO STS 1.2, by changing only the document type declaration (or other schema identification mechanism).

Voted YES on ISO/CD TS 28560-4 RFID In Libraries – Part 4:Encoding of Data Elements

Description:

This part of ISO 28560 defines rules for ISO 28560-1 data elements to be encoded in radio frequency identification (RFID) tags with a memory structure that is partitioined into four memory banks. This primarilty applies to ISO/IEC 10800-63 (previously known as ISO/IEC 18000-6 Type C) operating in the UHF frequency, but not necessarily restricted to this technology.

This document establishes 15 core metadata elements for cross-domain resource description. These terms are part of a larger set of metadata vocabularies maintained by the Dublin Core Metadata Initiative. Properties in the /terms/ namespace are included in ISO 15836-2.
